Make Evaluation a Part of the Design Process

That is, consiser how functional and pedagogical components will be evaluated while they are being designed. This will make the evaluation process more focused and relevant and also improve the design of the text itself. Early in the design process, authors should consider the psychology of potential users and variations throughout the user population. Based on this evaluation, tasks and performance requirements should be made explicit. Additionally, methods for accomplishing these tasks should be specifically identified. An early analysis of these issues provide valuable design guidelines for the author, and they allow an evaluation that measures the objectives of the design. By attempting to predict performance beforehand, user sensitivity to specific design assumptions can be measured.
