Use "Real-World" Metaphors

For example: "control panel", "desktop", "business form", "data table". If the context is familiar, then the result of an action should be familiar. It is unnatural, and difficult, for learners to operate modally, where the result of an action depends on the context. Reading a computer- based text may not be a natural experience for many people, and they need not be reminded that this is what they are doing. A sense of "displacement" into the metaphor can be enhanced by the use of audio and visual effects.
